What is the WISER framework?
The WISER framework explores alternative wellbeing-oriented pathways toward environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive societies. The WISER Simulator is built on the Eurogreen+ macro-simulation model developed within the Ecohesion Toolkit platform (link to the methodological page in the Ecohesion Simulator). It translates the policy framework proposed in the WISER project and the Green Book on Policies for Wellbeing and Sustainable Development into an interactive simulation environment. The WISER approach starts from a simple idea: economic growth alone does not automatically improve people’s lives. Wellbeing depends not only on income, but also on social trust, job quality, work-life balance, access to public services, environmental quality, and the strength of social relationships. The framework therefore studies how wellbeing, sustainability, fairness, productivity, and economic resilience interact dynamically over time. Rather than focusing on isolated objectives, it explores how different policy priorities may generate different transition pathways and different forms of sustainable prosperity.
